Scottish Ambassador Olivia G meets Margaret Mitchell, MSP

Scottish Ambassador, Olivia G, has been in contact with Margaret Mitchell MSP (Member of the Scottish Parliament) who was invited to visit Hamilton College on Monday where Olivia and her team introduced her to Mathletics and told her all about World Maths Day. As a result, World Maths Day was mentioned by Mrs Mitchell in a Parliamentary session, and the event has been recognised and endorsed by the Scottish Parliament. Below is an except from the transcript of yesterday’s Parliamentary session…

“The Scottish Parliament congratulates Olivia G, a primary seven pupil at Hamilton College, South Lanarkshire, and Gavin R, a second year pupil at Denny High School, Falkirk, on becoming the Scottish Ambassadors for World Maths Day 2010 and further notes that World Maths Day, whereby pupils compete with other pupils across the world in live games of mental arithmetic, will take place on 3 March 2010…. it considers that the event provides an excellent forum for Scots pupils to cultivate their mathematical skills in a fun way, and therefore encourages teachers, parents and pupils across Scotland to get involved with World Maths Day this year.”
